Cape Town [Khoekhoen: Hui !Gaeb-where the clouds gather]; (Afrikaans: Kaapstad-ˈkɑːpstat]; [isiXhosa: Ikapa) is a coastal city in South Africa. Cape Town, the “Mother City”, is the oldest city in South Africa and has a cultural heritage spanning more than 300 years. Table Mountain and the surrounding area was Home to the Khoisan people long before the first Europeans arrived. They called the City:”Hui Gaeb”. They were a skilled and industrious people with an unmatched knowledge of the local fauna and flora. They also gave Table Mountain its first name: Hoerikwaggo, or “Mountain in the Sea”. Today Cape Town is the second-most populous urban area in South Africa after Johannesburg. It is also the capital city of the Western Cape province.
